Topic 1 Introduction

With the effect of urbanization and globalization in the 21st century, sedentary lifestyle has become normalized, and obesogenic environments have become one of the basic elements of modern life. Children have also been affected by this change in lifestyle; childhood obesity has increased worldwide and has become a critical health problem.

Today, obesity is the common etiological factor of many diseases with increasing frequency, and it has solid economic repercussions on nations. It negatively affects the life quality of individuals, causes workforce losses, and creates a severe burden on the health sector, which are other reasons for our study on this subject. The main point of this perspective is that the probability that a 4-year-old obese child will also be obese in adulthood is 20%, while the likelihood that a child who is obese in adolescence will also be obese in adulthood is 80%. It can be predicted that even the most minor interventions to address childhood obesity will significantly reduce morbidity and mortality.
