Age Specific Nutrition: 1 – 3 Years Old

Nutrition Between 1 - 2 Years Old

  • Daily energy intake should be approximately 900-100 kcal and approximately 30%-40% of this should be from fats
  • A daily intake of 700 mg of calcium and 7 mg of iron is recommended
  • Daily consumption of milk/dairy product is recommended as 2 glasses/portion
  • It is recommended that they eat 3-4 portions of red or white meat per week. It is also recommended to avoid processed meats and prepared meat products
  • Consumption of 2 servings of seafood per week, especially sardines, anchovies, horse mackerel type fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids is recommended
  • A daily intake of 50-60 mg grains is recommended (includes wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley, etc.). This is equivalent to 1 slice of whole grain bread, half a cup of rice or pasta
  • Daily 1 small whole fruit or ½ of large fruit is recommended
  • Consumption of 100% fruit juice should be limited to 120 ml per day
  • It is recommended to consume 1 serving of vegetables per day
  • It is recommended to consume 1-2 servings of legumes per week in this age group
  • Fat restriction is not recommended in this age group. oils; includes olive oil, nuts, etc
  • In addition, minimal use of sweets, confectionery and jams is recommended
  • Daily fluid intake should be 5 glasses.

Nutrition in the 2 - 3 Age Group

  • In this age group, daily energy intake is recommended around 1000-1400 kcal, and 30-40% of this should be met from fats
  • Saturated fats should be limited to <10% of total energy intake; Trans fat intake should be as low as possible
  • Daily iron intake is recommended as 7 mg/day, calcium intake 700 mg/day, zinc intake 3 mg/day.
  • Daily grain intake should be 3 portions. (1 slice of bread = 1 medium potato = 1 cup of cooked pasta = 1 portion)
  • Weekly legume intake should be 3 portions (60-90 gr).
  • Consumption of 2-3 portions of red/white meat per week is recommended
  • It is recommended to consume 2 portions of fish per week.
  • Daily consumption of 2-2.5 glasses/portion of milk/dairy product is recommended.
  • Daily consumption of 60-90 grams of protein is recommended.
  • A daily intake of 90-120 grams of grain is recommended.
